The peace-loving pangolin is a mammal that lives in Asia and sub-Saharan Africa. Some people call it a scaly anteater—but don’t! The Pangolin will take offense, roll into a ball, and play dead.

Sadly, these shy creatures are threatened by poaching; their scales are used in some folk medicines. The pangolin’s protective scales are made of keratin—the same material in human fingernails. So, people should stop poaching pangolins for medicine and start using nail clippings instead.
